  • Lilieslief Farm
The Farm was secretly used by African National Congress activists in the 1960s. It provided a secure location where the underground leadership could meet. Nelson Mandela secretly lived and operated at the Farm under the name of David Motsamayi.

  • Apartheid Museum
The Apartheid Museum opened in 2001. The Museum, the first of its kind, illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid. The museum is a superb example of design, space and landscape offering the international community a unique South African experience.
  • Johannesburg City Orientation
Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa, by population and is also known as Jozi or Joburg. There are plenty of historic and attractive sites in Joburg like the Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill or the Hector Pieterson Museum.

  • Museum Africa
Museum Africa is Johannesburg’s social and cultural history museum. It is located in what was once the city’s fruit and vegetable market, with a block-long facade, towering pillars and huge interior space.

  • Mary Fitzgerald Square
The Mary Fitzgerald Square is a city plaza surrounded with bars, coffee shops and restaurants. It is the heart of Johannesburg's cultural precinct. Mary "Pickhandle" Fitzgerald is considered to have been the first female trade unionist in the country.

  • Chancellor House
The Chancellor House is a building that once housed the law firm of Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo. Between 1952 and 1956, Mandela and Tambo had a thriving law practice, trying to help others who were accused of crimes against the state and disobeying the draconian laws of the time. Nowadays it is a national heritage site.

Long Walk to Freedom

"I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun, one's feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death." Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom: Autobiography of Nelson Mandela
